The ASEAN Biodiversity Plan (2024–2030) provides a regional framework to guide biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and restoration efforts across ASEAN Member States. Aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the plan sets out 23 regional biodiversity targets and promotes coordinated action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. ASEAN is recognized as a globally significant biodiversity region, containing more than 25 percent of known species despite covering about 3 percent of the world’s land area, with over 660 million people depending on its natural resources. The plan emphasises ecosystem restoration, nature-based solutions, and strengthened regional cooperation to support environmental sustainability and socio-economic development.
  1. 1: Integrated management, spatial planning, and ecosystem-based management
  2. 2: Promoted science and knowledge-based terrestrial, inland water, and coastal and marine ecosystems restoration
  3. 3: Strengthened governance and management of ASEAN Heritage Parks contributing to 30% of global target for protecting marine and terrestrial areas by 2030
  4. 4: Improved species conservation, protected area management systems and wildlife enforcement
  5. 5: Increased protection of species in AHPs
  6. 6: Improved management, control, and prevention of invasive alien species (IAS)
  7. 7: Averted plastic wastes and reduced pollution in AHPs and protected areas
  8. 8: Enhanced understanding of nature-based solutions and/or ecosystem-based approaches and their contributions to climate change
  9. 9: Promoted the sustainable use of wild species
  10. 10: Enhanced engagement with the agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, and forestry sectors to mainstream biodiversity conservation
  11. 11: Enabled mechanisms to advance discussions on natural capital and economic valuation of natural resources
