The Balai Kliring Keanekaragaman Hayati Indonesia (BKKHI), or Indonesia Biodiversity Clearing-House Mechanism, is the national information portal established to facilitate the exchange of biodiversity data and information in support of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) implementation. The platform was formally established through Ministerial Decree Number SK. 755/Menlhk/KSDAE/KUM.0/9/2016 dated 23 September 2016, with the Secretariat positioned under the Directorate of Information and Conservation Planning, Directorate General of Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems, Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The legal basis for BKKHI is Law No. 5 of 1994 concerning the ratification of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD), which reflects Indonesia's commitment to biodiversity conservation, sustainable utilization, and international cooperation in science and technology. BKKHI functions as a portal and reference point connecting users with data providers through a network of partner nodes (mitra simpul) comprising government agencies, academic institutions, research organizations, and civil society organizations responsible for biodiversity data. The platform supports the implementation of the Indonesian Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP) and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), recognizing that Indonesia ranks second among megabiodiversity countries globally based on its biodiversity potential. The Working Group structure encompasses three thematic areas: Convention on Biological Diversity, Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, and Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing, with coordination across multiple ministries and national agencies.
