The Protected Area Information System (PAIS) is the national online database platform developed by the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to serve as the central repository of all data on biological resources, ecosystem services, and management activities across the 251 protected areas in the Philippines. The system provides Protected Area Superintendents with accurate, real-time data to support biodiversity management decision-making and enables the BMB to prepare the National State of Protected Areas (NSPAs) report. PAIS also tracks the Integrated Protected Area Fund (IPAF) allocations and wildlife species data across all protected areas. The dashboard displays that the Philippines has 121 legislated protected areas, 13 proclaimed protected areas, and 117 initial components under the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS). The system monitors protected area coverage against the Aichi Target 11 goal of conserving at least 17% of terrestrial and 10% of coastal and marine areas, with current data showing 15.51% terrestrial protected area coverage (4,653,564.09 hectares) and 1.42% marine protected area coverage (3,143,559.11 hectares). PAIS also documents wildlife species including 3,915 bird species, 489 mammal species, 401 reptile species, and 235 amphibian species recorded across protected areas.
