This webinar serves as the pilot session of a four‑part regional series on monitoring and reporting for Target 2 of the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which aims to restore degraded ecosystems by 2030. Hosted by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the session was designed to support national focal points in preparing their Seventh National Reports under the Convention on Biological Diversity. The session provides technical guidance on the Target 2 headline indicator on “Area under restoration”. It emphasises the need to use consistent ecosystem typologies such as the IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology, to report cumulative areas under restoration over time, and to apply the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM) to compile and validate data before submission through the CBD Online Reporting Tool. It also introduces the ACB Target 2 Help Desk as a regional support mechanism—national stakeholders are encouraged to apply these tools and guidance to strengthen their national reporting processes.
