The Small Grants Programme Phase II (SGP II) in Viet Nam is a regional initiative implemented across four ASEAN Heritage Parks: Ba Be, Hoang Lien, Chu Mom Ray, and Kon Ka Kinh. Supported by the German Government through KfW Development Bank and the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, the programme involved a €7.71 million investment aimed at supporting biodiversity conservation and community‑based activities.
Programme activities included the use of monitoring and management tools such as Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART), geographic information systems (GIS), and drones to support wildlife surveys and forest protection efforts by park authorities. In parallel, the programme supported alternative livelihood activities for local and indigenous communities, including ecotourism initiatives, honey production, and traditional handicrafts, as part of an approach linking conservation objectives with community participation. The resource documents programme implementation, stakeholder engagement, and capacity‑building activities at site level. It provides contextual information on the use of small grants to support protected area management and community involvement in biodiversity conservation, contributing to the regional knowledge base on conservation and sustainable development approaches.
