The Subregional Dialogue on Biodiversity Monitoring and Reporting on Ecosystem Restoration under Target 2 of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework was organized by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 2 to 5 September 2025, the dialogue brought together more than 70 participants, including restoration experts and national focal points from nine ACB constituent parties, as well as representatives from Jordan and UN agencies.
The event aimed to strengthen national capacities to implement the monitoring framework for Target 2, which seeks to restore at least 30% of degraded ecosystems by 2030. Participants joined technical sessions and peer-learning activities on Target 2 fundamentals and the preparation of the Seventh National Report due in 2026. A key highlight was hands-on training on the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring, a geospatial tool for registering and visualizing restoration initiatives.
Countries shared progress in aligning National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans with global targets while also identifying challenges in data availability and technical capacity. The dialogue concluded with a commitment to enhance regional collaboration and establish a dedicated help desk to support ongoing monitoring efforts.
