The ASEAN region is home to a unique network of protected areas known as ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHPs), which are established to preserve a complete spectrum of representative ecosystems and generate greater awareness of the region's shared natural heritage. However, the influx of visitors to these delicate environments necessitates a strong understanding of ethical travel behaviors to prevent degradation. To address this, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), in cooperation with GIZ, produced this publication to bridge the gap between conservation policy and public awareness through the engaging story of a travel enthusiast named Tuan. This comic book chronicles Tuan’s adventures across ten featured AHPs, providing readers with specific, actionable lessons on how to be responsible tourists, such as the rule to "take nothing but pictures" and the critical instruction to "protect marine life" by avoiding plastic pollution. The narrative highlights that "improper waste disposal poses a great risk to birds and fish" and emphasizes the importance of supporting local communities by choosing to "buy from the locals" rather than patronizing prohibited wildlife products. Download this educational resource to join Tuan’s journey and learn how to safeguard ASEAN’s biodiversity for future generations. |
